Keeping food on hand for emergencies protects you the same way insurance on your home, or auto does. With Mountain House freeze-dried foods in your food reserve, you'll be ready for just about any unexpected crisis. In today's turbulent times of uncertainty (i.e. frequency of natural and man-made disasters and more), there has never been a better time to get a 'food insurance policy' of long storing foods and preparedness supplies. In fact, the investment you make today may become one of the most important and valuable investments you will ever make!
Imagine what a life saver these foods will be when your electric power is knocked out for several days by a severe storm. With Mountain House on hand and a one burner stove or candle to heat water (cold water can be used in a pinch), you can enjoy a hot delicious gourmet tasting meal in less that 10 minutes. Having your own private food reserve makes a lot of sense--now more than ever before. The peace-of-mind and security that comes from having your food reserve is potentially priceless!
If food supplies were interrupted for any variety of reasons ( i.e. crashes of grocery store computers or computerized delivery systems, a natural disaster, civil unrest riots, trucker strike, etc.), existing store supplies would disappear within hours. No amount of money in the bank could put food on your table...for sure not the kind you enjoy today. And how about those credit cards and ATM cards--if the power is out or computer lines are down you'll be on your own. This does not need to ever happen to you or your family. All you need to do is simply take a few prudent steps today and get prepared with your own food reserves.
Mountain House freeze-dried foods are delicious, require no preparation, and will taste just as fresh years from now as they do today. Backpackers consistently rate us #1 year after year as the best tasting foods and ease of preparation. We are often asked why our foods taste superior to the competition. The answer is fairly simple. We start with fresh or frozen foods, then prepare and cook them, and finally freeze-dry them ourselves.
All the goodness, flavor, and taste are locked in just as if you had made them yourself from scratch. In comparison, all other backpacking food companies do not actually freeze-dry or cook their own foods. They blend the dry components of other companies and package them. Our foods taste as close to "fresh frozen" as you can get! If you want to store the best...look no further than Mountain House.
In today's fast and hectic pace of life, we are used to a variety of fast convenient foods. From fast foods restaurants to microwaveable foods, we want fast great tasting meals our whole family will love. This is where Mountain House leads the field. Our freeze-dried foods are extremely easy to prepare--just add hot water, wait 10 minutes, then eat! Their convenience can't be beat. Because no cooking is needed, these foods require much less water and fuel than most fresh, frozen or dehydrated foods (further conserving these two precious commodities).
Mountain House freeze-dried foods are sealed in airtight NITROGEN PACKED #10 cans or sealed pouches. A minimum of 98% of the residual oxygen has been removed. Our unique canning process uses both vacuum oxygen removal and nitrogen flushing. This is a time consuming and slightly more costly process...but well worth it. It is the same process mandated by the U.S. Military (for whom we also can). Our foods have the longest shelf-life available...up to 25 years! And since Mountain House has been around for 35 years they know first hand!
We invite you to compare. Each can is enamel coated inside and out for double protection. The can contents are protected until you are ready to open and use them. After opening, we recommend using the contents within 2 to 3 weeks for best results and taste; using the convenient resealing plastic lid between uses. Treat any leftover food as you would fresh food.
"Freeze-drying" is a unique process that provides product characteristics that cannot be achieved with any other food processing method. We start by using fresh or cooked foods then flash freeze them in a special vacuum chamber that reaches -50°F. As low-level heat is applied (much less than dehydrating), the ice crystals evaporate without going back to the liquid phase. This process, called "sublimation", removes approximately 98% of the moisture and prevents the food from spoiling. The ultimate long term storage.
Freeze-drying provides very unique benefits and advantages over other food processing methods. Frozen foods maintain their fresh flavor, but they must remain frozen. Dehydrated and canned foods are shelf-stable, but their high-temperature processing reduces their flavor, texture, color, and nutrients. FREEZE-DRYING combines the best of these methods--it locks in the freshness, color, original shape, texture, and aroma of frozen food while providing the shelf-stable convenience of canned or dehydrated food.
Mountain House has a firm commitment to produce high quality food products in the cleanest, most modern food processing plant. Our facilities have continuous USDA and FDA inspections. We use only the highest quality meats, poultry, eggs, and vegetables--NO SUBSTITUTES. Every batch of food we produce is tested, and re-tested again, but we don't stop there! We continue quality control (QC) testing and sampling during the entire canning process. Even then we're not finished. We pull off random cases from each run for further QC inspections. Afterwards, our QC department holds each completed run until the testing is completed. Only then are our foods ready to leave our facilities.
Does all this make a difference? You bet is does. For over 30 years, our reputation for producing the finest freeze-dried foods is unsurpassed. We invite your close inspection. Try some of our premium quality foods for yourself. Like thousands of other food storage buyers each year, we think you will agree that Mountain House offers the finest quality foods for long-term storage.
