Great Food for the Trail
Tried it for the first time this weekend backpacking in Southern Indiana. Easy to prepare, and tasted great after a long day on the trail. My camping partner is a former Marine, so he's had his share of MRE's, and needless to say wasn't real excited about another meal in a pouch, but he loved it. The Pro-pak pouch was great to save space and us each have our own bag to eat out of.

Got me through five years of college!
I'm an old girl, but I've been a fan of Mountain House since the 1980's. I started the trend of the luggage carrier being used to tow my books and two meals each day. But I prefer something hot, and I lived off this beef stroganoff for lunch each day for five years! And somehow, I never really got sick of eating the same thing each day. When I met my fiance, I taught him how to prep it so it was ready when I finished the last class in the morning. Now I had to bring twice as much!! Thank you for providing what I needed to "survive" college!!! Forget buying them just for emergencies!! It's the best way for a starving student to survive and thrive and be healthy.

The weight is 4 oz. Add 12 oz boiling water to get to the 16 ounces advertized in the Description. That's OK if you know what you are really buying. I've eaten this and it's good, but realize that you will eat several of these packs a day if you are a male, expending energy. Buy some, eat it, and see for yourself. Also, shut off your gas, electric, and water - just like it might be in a real emergency - and prepare it from your stored water, in your solar oven. Also, the 25 year lifetime on freeze dried food (under the proper storage conditions) does not apply to the mylar pouch food, only the #10 cans. I rate it a 3 because critical info is omitted or misleading.
