Taste is above the competition. I am a mariner and the only downside is they are very crumbly (is there such a word?), in rough seas can be difficult to not spill contents. If they could make it more like a snack bar consistency I would give it five stars (Posted on 3/8/12)

I keep them for emergencies but also use them in my Go Bag's - travel - backpacking, hunting . You cannot go wrong with these excellent tasting for any purpose. Packaging is perfect. You can't get a better product for emergencies or use on any occasion. Buy them like insurance. They maintain taste and texture for years. These are much better tasting than the other brands. I even gave one to my brother (a cook) telling him it was a "lifeboat ration" and he actually liked it. I really like the individual wrapping of each portion, much easier to control than the brands that come as one big block. Took one to work and have been snacking on it in the midafternoon; from this "field test" I know that when I really need them, they'll be perfectly palatable. Thanks Nitro-Pak! (Posted on 6/11/11)

Would be good enough for one month when SHTF.
Didn't try it yet and not going to, unless it's the emergency. Don't really care what does it taste like, I'm not Ratatouille. It's just an emqrgency food.
Even if it tastes like a plywood it's gonna be better than a reed root or pine tree cambium.
Food = Life.

First, I'd like to thank Nitro-Pak for their excellent service! I placed my first order last week and it arrived safely as promised - thank you! The Datrex bars were ordered primarily for emergency kits, but also to extend preps. When you think about it, adding a 3600 Calorie bar to a single days rations, can extend that ration into two or more days, (depending on the food of course). Datrex bars just make sense. I added two into my 72-hour MRE-kit, added three more into a 2-week prep and kept one aside to sample. The cube is perfectly wrapped and the individually wrapped bars have a very good taste. As Lou pointed out - a bit dry, (kind of reminds me of Halva), but still not thirst-provoking. A few sips of water and they went down easy. Datrex seems to be an effective and economical way to extend your preps a little further and have a piece of mind for nutrition in emergency situations... I'll be ordering a case as well... Purchased one 3600 Calorie cube to sample and was pleasantly surprised! The cube was perfectly sealed. Each of the 18 bars was indiviually wrapped for easy use. They tasted like a regular cookie with a little hint of coconut. Very tasty but a little dry as can be expected. Several people in my office sampled the bars and all were impressed and asked that I buy them a few blocks for their 72 hour emergency kits. I also have sampled the "Mainstay" rations and the Datrex were a lot better in taste, texture and packaging. I'll be ordering a case now!! (Posted on 7/27/10)
