MREs, which stands for "Meals Ready to Eat", are the latest U.S. Military field rations (meals) that are perfect for short backpacking treks, campers, hunters, and emergency reserves. MREs were developed to be eaten anywhere, anytime. Ready-to-Eat hot or cold without any preparation! They are packaged in a triple-layer foil/plastic "retort" pouch for longer storage-life. Each complete MRE meal will provide around 1000 calories per meal!
How long will an MRE store for? MRE military entrees and side dishes will remain nutritionally good for approximately 5 to 8 years when stored at room temperature according to rigid military testing. We suggest storing them in a cool dry place, the same as with all food reserves to maximized their shelf-lives. Storage temperature DOES affect the shelf-life of MREs as well as ALL foods.
Other components in each MRE meal will vary for shelf-life like crackers, candy and cookies. We have typically found these items still very good tasting after years of storage though sometimes harder or dryer but still very tasty to eat. Cracker spread will have a shorter shelf-life, around 2 years. The outer heavy-mil waterproof bag adds an additional layer of protection to all inner components.
Each meal comes packed in a rugged clear bag to protect each meal from the elements and provides convenient meal organization. Everything you need for a complete meal is included.

The government is cracking down on illegal sales of military issued MRE meals. The Military now requires all new cases of MREs to have plainly printed on the box: "U.S. GOVERNMENT, COMMERCIAL RESALE IS UNLAWFUL". Does this affect the commercial sale of military issued MREs? You bet. It is strictly again the law. For years, there has been a sort of 'black market' in MREs. Be careful when you buy MREs. Don't take chances on "Gun Show", or "off the street" MREs, besides being illegal to possess, they may not be edible to eat.
We highly recommend that you never gamble with your food reserves. Play it safe. These are your 'insurance policy'. Know your source. Nitro-Pak offers only Full Meal MRE meals and components that are legal to own (made by the same manufacturers with both military MRE contract overruns {e.g. main course entree and side dishes} and commercial components). All are fresh from the factory. We never sell old surplus MREs.

Good value, 'New Product' Review by Weston
Quality I used MRE's regularly and have purchased them from several sources. The Nitro-Pak MRE's I received were only a few months old and excellent. Their pricing is good and considering you get fresh, recently made MREs, a better value than some other sources where you may save a buck, buck a coule year old MREs.
Only drawbacks are you don't get to choose and have to purchase complete meals. This probably helps keep the price down. (Posted on 4/28/11)
