These arrived yesterday.
Good shipping and great condition when arrived. The selections are VERY acceptable and come packaged with extra cookies, snacks, crackers, candy etc. I sampled the grilled beef patty along with the mexican corn, poppy seed pound cake, french toast, cookies and candy. I enlisted my 4 and 6 year old girls to help daddy execute a taste test. Overall my girls were very excited to be involved with unpackaging, heating and reviewing.

The end result EVERYTHING was a higher quality than i expected, my two girls enjoyed tasting each, giving me their thoughts and approving them as a keeper. These will now replace the ones i have ordered in the past as they did not pass my girls approval.

I typically buy the regular MRE cases-

These have the addition of the breakfast french toast (big), a big brownie, 3 packs of M&M's, and 2 packs of animal cracker type cookies, so in theory would cover almost an entire day's nutrition needs. Add the main entree and the side dish and it is lots of calories.

Just ordered another case. These are the Hungry Man MREs that are better than the others with more goodies, snacks, and larger portions. I think this one even includes a free sample french toast, so you've got essentially two good meals per person a day in an emergency situation for just about a week per case.

I personally figure 4-6 cases for two adults at any given time, plus plenty of canned goods and water, along with a pallet or boatload of baby food, diapers, and gear to cover my little guy makes a decent one month family safety net for us in the case of any sort of interruption to our food and water supply. We'll rotate the canned goods and MREs with fresh stock like we do now as we consume it while camping each year. Diapers are only good while they FIT.... ;)

With the standard MREs, if you're a bigger guy like me that burns calories while I work then you'll end up eating two per meal. A single meal of these fills me up and doesn't have me staring at a second pouch like the standard rations do.

Remember, you'll often burn far more calories in emergencies than usual unless you have an extremely physical job and you'll need more calories in colder climates to keep the core temperature up. Like they taught us in Boy Scouts; Be prepared! It brings peach of mind knowing you've got that contingency plan for your family. We all gotta eat... (Posted on 11/19/10)
